
Warwickshire Cane Seating Repairs and Replacements
Recaning a seat using sheet cane, appears easier than hand weaving a traditional seat. However the most tricky bit is removing the cane and the old bead that is glued in, without damaging the chair.
I use a drill to make some holes, then a steam kettle, then very carefully using a hammer and a spline chisel to lift out the bead.

Really pleased with this screen, a very different project for me, unfortunately couldn’t remove the wire as it was integral to the build, so couldn’t fix the cane onto the reverse, as would be normal. So had some frames made and soaked the sheet cane and then stretched it over the cane, glued and held it using loads of washing pegs. ... See MoreSee Less
